Free Shipping

A Shopify free shipping bar that always matches what checkout charges

Free shipping over $75, free shipping over $100, whatever threshold fits your margins: Stackable pairs a shipping-class discount with a live cart progress bar, computed by the same server-side engine, so the number on the bar and the shipping cost at checkout can never drift apart.

The problem

Merchants on the Shopify forums ask...

I added a "free shipping over $75" banner to my theme, but it's just static text. It doesn't know the actual discount rule, so if I change the threshold I have to remember to edit the banner too, and there's no live countdown as the cart changes.

Shopify can discount shipping automatically at a spend threshold, but there's no native storefront element that shows shoppers their progress toward it. Merchants either hand-code a banner with the threshold hardcoded, which drifts out of sync the moment the discount changes, or skip the messaging and hope shoppers notice free shipping at checkout.

How it works

How Stackable solves it

Campaign editor: the Type step with Free shipping selected.
01

Choose Free shipping as the offer type

A dedicated shipping-class offer type, separate from a product or order discount.

Campaign editor: the Tiers step with a single spend-threshold row set to 100% off shipping.
02

Set the spend threshold and the reward

100% off shipping is the common setup, but a lower percentage or a fixed amount off shipping works the same way. Add more than one threshold for a tiered ramp.

The cart progress bar counts down to it

The bar reads the live cart total, counts down to the threshold, and switches to an unlocked message the moment it's reached, styled from your theme editor.

Recipes

Use it like this

Scenario

A candle brand wants one clear incentive: free shipping over $75.

Setup

Type = Free shipping. One tier: minimum spend $75, reward 100% off shipping.

Result

Every cart at $75 or more ships free at checkout, and the progress bar counts down from any cart value up to $75, then flips to an unlocked message.

Scenario

A homeware store wants a gentler nudge before full free shipping: half off shipping at $50, fully free at $100.

Setup

Type = Free shipping. Two tiers: minimum spend $50, reward 50% off shipping; minimum spend $100, reward 100% off shipping.

Result

Carts between $50 and $100 get half off shipping automatically; past $100 shipping is free, and the progress bar always points at the next unreached tier.

Scenario

A skincare brand runs both free shipping over $75 and a $10 spend-goal reward at $120, at the same time.

Setup

Create both offers as separate campaigns; both stay live together.

Result

The SAME cart progress bar surfaces whichever goal is closer: it shows the free-shipping countdown under $75, then automatically re-points at the $120 spend-goal reward once free shipping is unlocked, with no separate widgets or theme code to manage.

FAQ

Common questions

Is the shipping discount always 100% free?

No, though that's the most common setup. Set the reward to 100% for fully free shipping, or a lower percentage or a fixed amount for a partial discount on the shipping cost.

Does the progress bar update without reloading the cart page?

Yes. It reads the live cart total from the theme's own cart data and re-renders on every add, update, or removal, whether that happens on the cart page or inside a cart drawer.

What happens in a store that sells in multiple currencies?

If a shopper's checkout currency differs from the shop's base currency, the bar hides itself rather than show a converted number Stackable can't guarantee is accurate. It reappears automatically for shoppers checking out in the shop's own currency.

Can free shipping combine with a volume discount or a spend goal?

Yes, if you switch on the matching combine control on each offer. Off is the default, so nothing stacks until you explicitly opt it in, and the cart simulator confirms the combined result before anything goes live.
