Spend goal discounts that reward the whole order, not one product
A spend goal discount pays off the order once a cart crosses a spend threshold you set, like spend $50 get 10% off or spend $100 get $15 off. It runs on the same server-side engine as every other Stackable offer, so the reward a shopper sees on the cart page is exactly what checkout charges, and a live progress bar shows how close they are to unlocking it.
Merchants on the Shopify forums ask...
“I want a "spend $75, get $10 off" discount that applies automatically, plus something on the cart page telling shoppers how much more to add before they unlock it. Building a second threshold means a whole new discount, and there's nothing native that shows progress toward either one.”
Shopify can create a minimum-purchase order discount natively, but each spend threshold is a separate discount built by hand, with no built-in storefront element showing shoppers their progress toward it. Getting that discount to combine correctly with a volume tier or free shipping means configuring combinesWith on every discount separately, with no way to check the combined result before it goes live.
How Stackable solves it

Choose Spend goal as the offer type
One offer type dedicated to order-level spend thresholds, alongside volume, BOGO, and free shipping.

Set one or more spend thresholds
Add as many spend/reward pairs as the offer needs, each a percentage off or a fixed amount off the order. Checkout always applies the single highest tier a cart actually qualifies for.

The cart progress bar counts down live
The storefront progress bar reads the live cart total and shows exactly how much more a shopper needs to add, with no page reload.
Use it like this
An apparel store wants one clear incentive to lift average order value: spend $75, get 10% off the whole order.
Type = Spend goal. One tier: minimum spend $75, reward 10% off.
Every cart at or above $75 gets 10% off at checkout, and the cart progress bar tells shoppers exactly how much more to add before they hit the discount.
A gift shop wants a bigger incentive for bigger carts: spend $50 get $5 off, spend $100 get $15 off.
Type = Spend goal. Two tiers: minimum spend $50, reward $5 fixed; minimum spend $100, reward $15 fixed.
Below $50 the progress bar counts toward the $5 tier; the moment a cart crosses $50 it re-aims at the $100 tier automatically, since checkout always resolves to the highest tier the cart qualifies for.
A running-shoes brand already runs 15% off a shoe collection and wants a $20 spend-goal reward to layer on top for big carts during BFCM.
Create the spend-goal offer with one tier: minimum spend $150, reward $20 fixed. Switch on "Combine with product discounts" on the spend-goal offer.
A qualifying cart gets both: the shoe collection's 15% comes off the line items first, then the $20 spend-goal reward comes off that already-discounted subtotal, matching what the cart page showed before checkout.
Common questions
What counts toward the spend threshold?
The cart's full subtotal, checked the same way at checkout as on the cart page. If a product discount already applied earlier in the same order, the spend-goal reward itself is calculated off that already-discounted total, so the order can never go negative, but the threshold itself is always checked against the cart's full value.
Can I set more than one spend tier?
Yes. Add as many spend thresholds as the offer needs, each with its own percentage or fixed-amount reward. Checkout applies the single highest tier a cart qualifies for, never multiple tiers at once.
Does the reward have to be a percentage?
No. Choose a percentage off the order or a fixed amount off. A fixed amount is automatically capped at the order subtotal, so the discount can never push a total below zero.
Can a spend goal give a free gift instead of money off?
Not today. A spend goal discount rewards a percentage or a fixed amount off the order. Adding a free product at a spend threshold is a separate offer type, Free Gift, currently coming soon.

Discount Stacking
How to stack discounts in Shopify comes down to settings the platform hides by default: every discount belongs to a class (product, order, or shipping), and whether two discounts combine is decided per offer, per class. Stackable puts those combine switches on every offer, so a volume tier, a spend goal, and free shipping add up exactly the way you configured them, every time.
Volume Discounts
Shopify quantity breaks, natively, pool every product in a collection toward one shared threshold. Stackable's tiers count the exact product, and only the variants you choose, so a chair buyer doesn't get a discount by adding three unrelated items to the cart.
Free Shipping
Free shipping over $75, free shipping over $100, whatever threshold fits your margins: Stackable pairs a shipping-class discount with a live cart progress bar, computed by the same server-side engine, so the number on the bar and the shipping cost at checkout can never drift apart.
Install Stackable and start with Spend Goal
Every offer type runs on the same server-side engine, so whatever you combine, the checkout math holds.
